Last week's pew sheet

Saint Paul, Whitley Bay

First Sunday of Advent

2 December 2018

Please use this sheet through the week in your prayers.

Welcome to Saint Paul’s.  Once more our celebrant is Canon Ian Flintoft, to whom we are grateful for agreeing to help. The special prayers for this Sunday, Bible reading references, and hymn numbers are on this sheet. Words for the hymns are in the green book, or in this sheet.  For children of Sunday Club age, items are available to help occupy them at the back of church if a Sunday Club leader is not available.  Just ask the Sidesmen (who gave you this leaflet) if you have any questions.

The Advent Crown: the first candle is lit.  We sing:

Christ, circle round us.

Christ, may your light surround us.

Shine in our living.

Fill our hearts with great thanksgiving.

Come, O Radiant Dawn,

splendour of the morning light.

Come, Sun of Justice,

Turn away the power of night.

Christ, circle round us…..

First hymn (procession – please join in if you can):   11    O come, O come Emmanuel.

Collect:  Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility; that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal: through him who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

1st Reading:    Jeremiah 33: 14 – 16

Gradual hymn: 15    The Lord will come and not be slow.

2nd Reading:   1 Thessalonians 3: 9 – 13

Gospel Acclamation:

Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight, and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

New Electoral Roll:  The legal notice about the preparation of the new electoral roll is currently being displayed in the porch. Every six years, every Anglican Church is required to completely renew their electoral roll. This means that every one of us has to re-apply to have our name registered on St. Paul’s electoral roll. If you are on the current roll, there is a form at the back of church with your name on it.  Please complete it and return as soon as possible to either Helen Lawlan our electoral roll officer, or to Lilian Martin. Perhaps you could help to distribute these forms to someone who lives within walking distance of you?
