Last week's pew sheet

Saint Paul, Whitley Bay

First Sunday of Advent

3 December 2017

Please use this sheet through the week in your prayers.

Welcome to Saint Paul’s. The main order of service is on the cream card. The special prayers for this Sunday of the year, Bible reading references, and hymn numbers are on this sheet to help you to follow the service. Words for the hymns are in the green book, or on this sheet. Items are available to occupy children who are not attending Sunday Club.  Just ask the Sidesmen (who gave you this leaflet) about this, or if you have any other questions.

The Advent Crown

We light our first candle as a sign that Jesus is our hope of bringing light to a darkened word.

Thanks be to God.

The first candle is lit.

Jesus is the light of the world.

A light no darkness can ever put out.

We sing:

Come, Lord Jesus, come,

Come, Lord Jesus, come.

Come, Lord Jesus, come,

To this world of ours.

May we see your light,

May we see your light,

May we see your light,

In this world of ours.

First hymn (procession – please join in if you can):    33   Of the Father’s heart begotten.

Collect:  Grant your faithful, we pray, almighty God, the resolve to run forth to meet your Christ with righteous deeds at his coming, so that, gathered at his right hand, they may be worthy to possess the heavenly Kingdom. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.

From the Flower Guild:  a collecting box for contributions towards the cost of Christmas flowers is ready at the back of church.  Thank you for your donations.

Pilgrim course: the Outreach Committee is setting up a small team of people to organise the next course - date to be confirmed.  One course leader is in place, but we not only need other people to help run the sessions but also to do the background administration – e.g. setting up the room, making sure relevant documents and copies are available, making tea etc.  Could you please let Ann Laing or Jan Soulsby know if you would be able to help, or want to know more.

Annual Parochial Church Meeting, Sunday 11 February 2018.  Attention, all St. Paul’s groups and organisations; the APCM reports booklet needs your entries!   The deadline is 17 January at the very latest.  This gives time to print the booklet in time for distribution two weeks prior to the meeting. Thank you. Mary Evans, PCC secretary.

Soup and Roll charity Lunches 2018: please give your nominations, with details about your proposed charities to Mary Evans by 20 January 2018. The PCC will consider them all at the meeting on 30 January 2018, and the agreed charities will be published following the meeting.

Safe Places Scheme: we are part of this scheme.  If you’re on the Welcome Team, or do church sitting, please pick up your personal copy of a special factsheet from the back of church.  There are spare copies for others interested in the Scheme, and a copy of the factsheet is on the noticeboard.  Thank you.

Thank you to our church dusting volunteer this week, 3 – 9 December: Judith Collin.
